Do you wonder why someone got sick? Why a person gets Cancer, or Rheumatoid Arthritis, or AIDS, or has a heart attack or a stroke? Let’s talk about that today. Because the cause is at once simpler and more complicated that you think.
All dis-ease is caused by one thing–stress. I look at stress a little differently than most. But before I delve into that, let me tell you a secret.
If you have ANY symptoms, it’s because your total stress load has reached your critical point. Think of an old-fashioned thermometer with a red bulb at the bottom. Each of us has a different sized red bulb where our tolerance for stress is concerned. But when that red bulb gets full of stress, it pushes the red liquid to to 10 then 20 then 30 etc.
At some point, you’ve reached your stress tolerance level or critical point and your body can no longer handle it and compensate so you start having symptoms. Each person’s symptoms will be different depending on the weakest system in their body.
I don’t care what your symptoms are: a rash, pain, a back problem, a cold, or cancer or even AIDS–the cause is always the same: you’re above your critical stress level. The more serious the symptoms, the further above your critical point you are. And the longer you stay above critical, the more deadly the symptoms become.
So as a wellness counselor, my job is always to help people lower their total stress load as far below the critical point as we can get them. One thing to remember is that the first day you are symptom free, you are not well. You are one day away from having symptoms again. You have to continue to work to lower your total stress load.
Let’s look at potential stresses:
- Poor air quality
- Diet
- Exercise (too much, too little, or the wrong kind)
- Toxins in food, water, air, household cleaners, carpets, hair sprays, deodorants etc.
- Thoughts
- Jobs
- Relationships
- Death of a loved one
- Bacteria, virus etc.
- Working under deadlines
- Parasite
- Overweight or underweight
- Lack of sleep or poor quality sleep
- Divorce
- Loss of any kind.
- Animals
Well, you get the idea–almost anything can cause stress including the pets we adore.
My second job as an advisor (and your work to improve your health) is to see what stressors can be reduced. REWMEMBER WHEN WE REDUCE THE TOTAL STRESS LOAD BELOW A CRITICAL POINT, THE SYMPTOMS (AND THUS THE DIS-EASE) WILL BEGIN TO DISAPPEAR.
Today I’d like you to make a list of EVERYTHING you can think of that might be a stressor in your life. Think about which ones might be easiest to reduce. ANY reduction will lower your total stress load.
I’ll come back to this topic soon and give you some more ideas how to do this.
And when those symptoms begin to disappear you will come soar with me in greater health and vitality.
Blessings
